Crazy match! Just a weird feel the whole way through. First set we beat em pretty good but it still felt like I wasn’t getting a read on their hitting. Next two sets were just ugly all the way through. Just relieved we pulled it out in the end. Blocking was pretty terrible for me the whole way. They were seeing me and just hammering the other way. Finally I tried split blocking and got two important ones to end the match. Asahi was a really solid blocker. Reminded me of a Sean Scott. That was the first time playing Japan and I gained a ton of respect for their game. I think it was really good for us to have a tight match though.
My family had some great red white and blue wigs on for the match. They are such studs! They have been unbelievably supportive. I mean they came to freaking Beijing to watch me play volleyball! Best family in the world!
